JOB ANNOUNCEMENTS in Ethnomusicology and Musicology at Boston University: Assistant Professor, tenure track (two positions)

(1) The Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology at Boston University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Ethnomusicology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in July, 2015. We seek applicants with a broad range of research and teaching interests in any area(s) of ethnomusicological research, and a desire to build on the success of a dynamic program located in one of the world?s most important cities for learning and the arts. Candidates should have an earned PhD in Ethnomusicology (or Ethnomusicology being the major concentration) by the time of appointment, show clear evidence and potential for significant scholarly contributions to the field, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and a strong interest in building and sustaining collaborations with other departments and institutes on campus. The ability to perform and direct a world music ensemble will be considered an asset. Duties will include a 2+2 load divided between undergraduate
and
graduate teaching, the advising of doctoral students, and service to the School of Music. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to teach in the Kilachand Honors College, a selective, innovative, and interdisciplinary undergraduate program.

(2) The Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology at Boston University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Musicology at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in July, 2015. Although candidates in any area of research will be considered, we particularly encourage applications from those with a specialization in 20th- and/or 21st-century music. Applicants should have an earned PhD by the time of appointment, show clear evidence of and potential for significant scholarly contributions to the field, demonstrated excellence in teaching, a strong interest in building interdisciplinary collaborations with cognate departments and institutes on campus, and a desire to contribute to a dynamic program located in one of the world?s most important cities for learning and the arts. The 2+2 course load will include undergraduate courses for music majors and non-majors, graduate seminars, and advising and supervision of graduate students. The successful c

FOR BOTH POSITIONS:

The Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology is housed in the School of Music within the College of Fine Arts, but Department faculty are also appointed to and serve in the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, teaching in the undergraduate program and in the MA and PhD programs.
